The 25-year-old striker is likely to leave Coventry this summer after they lost in the Championship playoff final last season.
He scored 21 times in 46 appearances in the Championship and has several suitors in the Premier League due to his potent displays last term.
West Ham are interested in signing him but Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon are taking real strides over trying to get Gyokeres in the ongoing transfer window.
They have tabled an opening offer of £16m for the striker but that is short of the £20m Coventry want from his departure.
Sporting Lisbon are now set to hold face-to-face talks with Coventry over taking the Swede to Portugal this summer.
They are hopeful of finding a compromise and working out an agreement with Coventry for Gyokeres.
It remains to be seen whether West Ham look to table an offer and compete with Sporting Lisbon for the striker’s signature.
Coventry do not want to lose the striker for a knock-down price despite their failure to earn promotion last season.
