Marcelo Bielsa brought in the 19-year-old centre-back from Celtic in the summer of 2021 on a four-year deal.
Hjelde has impressed for Leeds’ Under-21s side and has already made five senior appearances for the Whites.
Last season, several Championship clubs were interested in Hjelde’s service and former Leeds boss Jesse Marsch decided to loan him to Rotherham United in January.
Now his performances for the Championship outfit have attracted attention from Italian outfit Salernitana.
And according to Italian daily Corriere dello Sport, Salernitana are closely monitoring the centre-back who is currently with the Norway Under-21 team participating in the European Championship.
The Leeds talent made 13 league appearances for Rotherham last season.
Hjelde still has two years left on his Leeds contract and now it remains to be seen whether the Yorkshire side will be willing to let the teenager go if an offer comes in.
