Spurs have finalised the signing of Maddison on a five-year contract from Leicester City for £40m ahead of next season, following the Foxes’ relegation to the Championship.

The English midfielder joins the club following five years at the King Power Stadium, where he appeared in 203 games, scoring 55 goals in that time frame.

Tottenham have strengthened their midfield by acquiring Maddison, who has drawn comparisons with former Tottenham star Eriksen.

Roberts feels the 26-year-old can finally fill the void left by the Dane’s departure in 2020 and believes there has never been a player better suited to Spurs’ style of play than Maddison.

The former Spurs star wrote on Twitter: “If ever there was a player more suited to playing the Spurs way @Madders10 is it!

“Exactly what we have missed the last few years since eriksen left the club.

“Welcome to Tottenham.”

The midfielder is Ange Postecoglou’s third summer acquisition, joining Dejan Kulusevski and Guglielmo Vicario.

Maddison was a standout performer for the Foxes last season and will ply his trade in the upcoming season under Postecoglou as the north Londoners attempt to get back on track after failing to secure a spot in a European club competition.
