Former Leeds United star Jon Newsome has insisted that Karl Darlow should have done better to save Preston North End’s late winner against the Whites at Deepdale.
The ten men of Leeds conceded a late goal when Liam Millar scored in the 89th minute to win the game for Preston 2-1 at home.
Illan Meslier was sent off for violent conduct in the 53rd minute and substitute goalkeeper Darlow was the one who conceded the late winner in Lancashire.
Newsome stressed from what he saw, Darlow should have been doing much better to keep that ball away from the net late in the game.
He insisted that the Leeds number 2 did not move his feet well enough and defensively that is a very disappointing goal to concede for the Yorkshire giants.
Asked if Darlow should have done better to save Millar’s goal, the former White said on BBC Radio Leeds: “Most definitely, yes.
“From what I have seen of it, yes.
“Doesn’t move his feet, doesn’t get across his goal, it’s not in the top corner by any stretch of the imagination.
“I am not trying to take anything away from the goalscorer, but it’s a goal you look at from a defensive point of view, it’s really disappointing to concede.”
Darlow will be in goal as Meslier will remain suspended when Leeds travel to West Brom on Friday night.
