Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has emerged as the preferred option for Napoli ahead of the winter transfer window and the Serie A giants are prepared to play the waiting game with Tottenham Hotspur next month.

Hojbjerg has been a bit part player at Tottenham this season and is believed to be open to a move away from Spurs in January.

Juventus and Atletico Madrid are interested in signing him but Napoli are now pushing to try and get their hands on him.

According to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport (via Tutto Napoli), the Dane is now the preferred target for Napoli ahead of the January transfer window.

Napoli are interested in signing the midfielder next month with only an option to buy attached to the agreement.

However, Tottenham are only open to loaning him out if there is a mandatory purchase clause between the €25m to €30m mark.

The north London club are also keen to source a replacement before letting Hojbjerg leave.

Napoli do not want to commit to a big expense in January and are prepared to wait until the end of the window to test Spurs’ resilience.

They successfully agreed on a similar deal with Spurs when they signed Tanguy Ndombele on loan with only an option to buy previously.
