Newcastle United remain keen on Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips, but a move to Juventus for the player looks off the table, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Phillips is looking to move on from Manchester City this month as he bids to play regular first team football and keep his Euro 2024 hopes on track.

Manchester City are aiming for a substantial loan fee and a sizeable salary contribution from whichever side Phillips joins.

The Cityzens’ terms look to have put Juventus out of the race as the Italians have no intention of meeting them.

Newcastle however are retaining their interest in Phillips as Eddie Howe looks for reinforcements, but they too are not keen to meet Manchester City’s demands.

It is also claimed that more clubs are involved in the scrap for the midfielder, but whether any side will be prepared to pay ball with Manchester City due to their current financial demands is unclear.

Phillips would also arrive without match sharpness, with just 89 minutes of Premier League football this term to his name.

He has struggled to make any kind of impact since joining Manchester City on a big money move from Leeds United in 2022.
