Leeds United have confirmed they are hoping to have Luke Ayling at their meeting with Preston North End at Elland Road on 21st January in order for fans to give him a send off.

Ayling has completed a loan move to Middlesbrough, something which effectively means his time at Leeds is over as his contract expires in the summer.

The full-back, who is also able to operate as a centre-back, became a legendary figure throughout his time at Leeds.

Ayling though slipped out of favour under current Leeds boss Daniel Farke and has now decided to move on, with Middlesbrough his destination.

Leeds want to give fans an opportunity to say goodbye to Ayling in the right way to acknowledge his lengthy and committed service to the club.

The club are hoping that he will be able to be at Elland Road later this month to allow the fans to give him a proper send off.

Leeds, while confirming his exit, said in a statement: “He will always be welcome at Elland Road and we wish him and his family all the very best for the future.

“Subject to Luke’s availability, we hope he will be able to attend our next home match against Preston North End, on Sunday 21st January, in order for supporters to be able to give him a true Leeds United send off.”

Ayling will now look to get himself into the Middlesbrough team under Michael Carrick and help Boro mount a promotion push in the Championship.
