New Sunderland manager Michael Beale has revealed that his side are in the market looking for the right number nine who can come in and fit into the side.

Having taken over charge only in December, the current transfer window is Beale’s first opportunity to add to the Black Cats squad.

There are positions that Beale has in mind, particularly in the final third as he looks for more goals.

The manager, while giving an insight into his transfer strategy for the month, revealed that the number nine that comes in has not just to fit into the set-up but also into the budget they have at their disposal.

The need, the former Rangers boss believes, is also to have someone who will be motivated to play for Sunderland.

“We are being linked with every number nine that’s breathing”, Beale was quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

“We are looking for the right number nine to come and fit in.

“He has to fit into our budget, and he has to be motivated to help us.”

Beale also insists that Sunderland are not just focused on adding in attack, but are looking for other players elsewhere to come in.

“We are also looking at a couple of other positions as well.

“We are busy in the background.”

Sunderland appointing Beale met with much criticism and it remains to be seen if the ex-QPR boss can win the fans over.
