Eddie Howe has rubbished talk that Newcastle United are pushing to sign Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke and claimed that the club cannot afford to sign him this month.
The Newcastle boss is desperate to bring in reinforcements but the club have been constrained by the Premier League’s financial rules.
Newcastle are walking a tightrope in terms of being within the Premier League’s spending limits and their recent accounts showed a loss north of the £70m mark for the last financial year.
The club can only afford to sign players on loan this month but there are suggestions that Newcastle are interested in signing Bournemouth’s Solanke.
Howe signed the forward when he was Bournemouth boss but he insisted that Newcastle have not made any enquiry for the striker.
The Newcastle manager also stressed that at this stage the club cannot even afford to sign a player of his quality given their spending constraints.
Howe said in a press conference: “A frustrating story for me because, yes I love Dominic Solanke, I signed him and I rate him very, very highly.
“But we have not made an enquiry for him and we don’t have the ability to sign a player of that level.”
It remains to be seen whether Newcastle can bring in any significant new faces given their injury crisis has been getting worse.
