Derby County are now expected to snap up Michael Smith from Sheffield Wednesday, according to the Sunday Mirror.
Owls striker Smith has been linked with a move away from Hillsborough during this month’s transfer window.
Danny Rohl has been unwilling to sanction an exit though before bringing in a replacement through the door, something he has now done with the arrival Ike Ugbo on loan from Troyes.
Derby want to bring in Smith and it is now expected that the Rams will get the 32-year-old this month.
Paul Warne is eyeing a promotion push in League One and wants to be able to lean on Smith’s goal-getting talent in the division.
The attacker has hit the back of the net a whopping 75 times in League One and Derby will want him to hit the ground running.
The jury is out on how quickly Derby will be able to complete the capture, but it appears Wednesday will now be content for Smith to go.
His deal with Sheffield Wednesday is due to run until the summer of 2025.
