Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl has claimed that Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho is unlikely to return to BVB next season.

Sancho has joined Dortmund on loan from Manchester United this summer after getting frozen out by Erik ten Hag due to disciplinary issues.

The winger has enthusiastically spoken about his return to Dortmund and there are suggestions that a permanent move could also be on the cards in the summer transfer window.

However, Kehl admitted that he does not see a realistic chance of seeing the player at Dortmund next season.

He admitted that Dortmund had no way of working out an option to buy when they were negotiating the loan with Manchester United given Sancho’s value.

The Dortmund sporting director also conceded that if the winger plays well then Dortmund are unlikely to have the financial capacity to compete for his signature in the summer.

Asked what are the chances of Sancho returning to Dortmund next season, Kehl told Sky Deutschland: “Realistically speaking, it’s not that big.

“Manchester United paid over €85m for the player two and a half years ago and there was now no way to get a purchase option in any way that was financially feasible for us.

“The salary will be one thing and the transfer package, another.

“If the player develops the way we hope, then completely different clubs will be active in the summer and then he will probably be in a category of players that for Dortmund would be difficult to buy on this scale.”

It remains to be seen if Sancho has a future at Manchester United when he returns in the summer.
