Eddie Howe has conceded that Newcastle are unlikely to sign a player without moving somebody on before Thursday’s transfer deadline.

The Newcastle boss has been desperate for additions to his squad this month but with only a few days left in the transfer window, the club are yet to sign anyone.

The Magpies have been left severely hamstrung by the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules and the club are wary of breaking the rules following stringent action against Everton.

They have been keen to move on Miguel Almiron and have a willing buyer in Al-Shabab but the winger is not sold on moving to Saudi Arabia in the ongoing winter transfer window.

Howe admitted that it is almost impossible for Newcastle to sign anyone before Thursday’s deadline if they do not manage to sell players.

Talking about the transfer window, the Newcastle boss said in a press conference: “It’s a complex situation.

“I don’t think anything is clear cut. All eventualities could happen.

“Probably what we won’t do is bring a player in without moving one the other way.

“That would be impossible, but all other options could still happen.”

Newcastle blocked a move for Kieran Trippier to Bayern Munich and there are question marks over Callum Wilson’s future at the club as well.
